Are MPs any better disciplined now than before the expenses scandal?

MPs are our employees in parliament. The system has allowed some of them to forget this.

Elections are job interviews. We need to get the rules right or you can end up with the wrong candidate stuck in the job — often for life.

The expenses scandal showed how deeply out of touch some of our politicians have become.

It arose from a culture where MPs were not responsive to their voters in the way they should be.

With AV, MPs will have to reach out to a wider range of voters to get elected.

To be sure of winning, they will have to work harder to attract the support of more than 50% of local people.
